Amanda Glaza helps lead athletics at MCC
Amanda Glaza, of Rockford, loves working with student-athletes and having them on 麻豆映画传媒.
Glaza has served as 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 Assistant Athletic Director since March. She is excited that fall athletics are under way at the college, after more than a 40-year absence.
鈥淚 am most excited that students in our community have the opportunity to compete as collegiate student-athletes right here in their community,鈥 Glaza said.
This fall, the college has teams competing in women鈥檚 volleyball, and men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country. Men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 bowling, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 clay target shooting and men鈥檚 golf will also begin during this academic year.
In her role, Glaza provides administrative leadership, support and guidance for MCC鈥檚 student-athletes. She also serves as a conductor in the college鈥檚 MCC Express program, specifically working with student-athletes to ensure they have the support they need to be successful in and out of the classroom.
Volleyball is Glaza鈥檚 favorite sport. She played for four years at Rockford High School as well as four years during college 鈥 two years at Grand Rapids Community College and two years at Grand Valley State University.
鈥淚 have met some of my best friends through the sport of volleyball, and it has also provided me with the opportunity to travel to places that I otherwise would not have been able to,鈥 Glaza said.
Glaza brings deep experience to her role at MCC. She coached AAU volleyball for Michigan Volleyball Academy for six years and she coached volleyball for six seasons at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). She also worked as a sports management intern at the YMCA for a semester where she organized and administered summer sports leagues. In addition, she worked at GRCC for five years, first as an athletics intern for a semester and then as the student-athlete navigator in GRCC鈥檚 athletic department, where she handled academic support for the student-athletes and also eligibility and compliance for their athletic department.
Glaza earned an Associate of Arts degree from GRCC, a Bachelor of Science in Sports Leadership and a Master of Education with an emphasis in Adult and Higher Education, both from GVSU.
At MCC, Glaza has been working on helping to build the college鈥檚 Athletics Department.
鈥淗elping to establish policies and procedures for the department is very rewarding. We are starting from the ground up, which has been a bit of a challenge because we want to make sure we are not overlooking anything,鈥 Glaza said.
In her free time, she enjoys playing beach volleyball, going shopping and spending time with family and friends.
