Centurion Athletics hosts Adopt-a-Family basketball games Dec. 7
听
The 麻豆映画传媒 Centurions have enjoyed a warm welcome from the community in their return to the basketball court this season; now, it鈥檚 their turn to give back.听
The men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams will host their Adopt-a-Family basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 7. Funds collected from the game will go to a local family in need 鈥 a father and three children (ages 4, 10 and 12). All proceeds from the game will go toward purchasing items for the family, including clothing, home goods, toys and more.听
The inception of the Adopt-a-Family games came almost a year ago, when MCC Athletic Director Hunter Redman began to hear about local families in need during the holiday season due to unforeseen circumstances. Upon approaching men鈥檚 basketball head coach Zach Ingles and women鈥檚 basketball head coach Scott Pedigo about the idea, they were completely on board.听
鈥淭he coaches were excited and happy to spread the word in order for this event to be a success,鈥 Redman said.听
Attendees for the game are encouraged to donate a new toy for the cause at a designated table just inside the MCC gymnasium. There will be an additional chance to donate to the family during halftime of both games, as a dash-for-cash will be held.听
The women鈥檚 basketball team (0-0 MCCAA Northern, 1-3 overall) will get the action started at 1 p.m. as they face Spring Arbor University鈥檚 JV team. The men鈥檚 team (0-0 MCCAA Northern, 2-5 overall) is scheduled to take the court at 3 p.m. as they face Community Christian College (MI).听
Just a few short years after athletics were reintroduced at MCC, the athletics program is now at a point where it can regularly support community initiatives and give back with events such as the Adopt-a-Family games. It鈥檚 a point of pride for Redman, who recognizes the work done to this point to be able to give back in meaningful ways.听
"I take great pride in the hours that our student-athletes dedicate to giving back to the community,鈥 Redman said. 鈥淎lthough we are new, we made a deliberate choice to seek opportunities for our athletes to engage and contribute to the very community that supports us. We are fortunate to have an incredible fan base and community that stands behind our programs, and it is the least we can do in return."听
While the donation to the family will be done privately, a list of items purchased for the cause will be made public in a report at a later date.听
Those who are unable to attend the games but who still wish to donate can do so in the Athletics Office in the Activities Building on MCC鈥檚 Sidney 麻豆映画传媒.听
