Cross Country comes out on top at MCCAA Northern Conference
The 鶹ӳý (MCC) Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference Meet on Sept. 20.
According to Head Coach Kevin Sweeney, because MCC is in the second year of athletic status within the MCCAA, MCC’s athletic teams are considered to be on probation and are not eligible for awards in the conference meet.
“We were allowed to participate but not collect any hardware,” Sweeney said. “That is unfortunate because the Centurions had a great day of running!”
Three Centurions would have earned all-conference honors, with Annette Fare being named conference champion as she finished 1stoverall in the women’s race, passing the leader in the final quarter-mile to take top honors.Fare finished in a time of 20:48 on the 5K course.
Hannah Reed finished in 12thplace and would have also made all-conference had the Centurions not been on probation. She finished in a time of 22:45.Carman Jones had a strong finish in 17thplace (24:38), followed by Grace Riley in 27thplace (30:56), Emily Putnam in 29thplace (37:44) and Victoria Yonker in 30thplace (38:33).
On the men’s side, Ryan Hardy was the first finisher for the Centurions, coming in 9thplace in a time of 29:26 on the 8K course. This too would have made Ryan all conference had MCC been eligible.
Following Ryan was Keegan Shafer in 20th (32:45), Cole Halfman in 31st (38:34), Dawson Dunn in 33rd (39:54), Jack Ruggles in 34th(39:56), Jack Snyder in 38th (43:02) and Caleb Clement in 39th(54:09).
MCC’s next race is the Lucian Rosa Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Muskegon Community College.
