Military Tuition Assistance Refund Policy
Active military students may receive military Tuition Assistance (TA) funds for their course enrollments with MCC. If you are using TA to pay for your education and withdraw from a class prior to completing 60% of the class, the Department of Defense requires that MCC return any unearned YA funds, based on how much of the course you completed, to the Department and that you you pay a portion of those returned funds. You may owe a portion of your tuition to MCC and a portion to your military branch.
MCC will return any unearned TA funds directly to the military service, not to the service member. The student will be notified within 30 days of the withdrawal as to the portion of the funds that need to be returned. However, when the military student stops attending for military obligation, MCC will work toward solutions that avoid student debt for the returned portion of TA funds.
MCC calculates the return of unearned TA funds using the following formula:
16 Week Course
- Before/during Week 1 - 100% return
- Week 2 - 88% return
- Week 3 - 81% return
- Week 4 - 75% return
8 Week Course
- Before/during Week 1 - 100% return
- Week 2 - 75% return
- Week 3 - 62% return
- Week 4 - 50% return
- Weeks 5-8 - 0% return
- Week 5 - 69% return
- Week 6 - 63% return
- Week 7 - 57% return
- Week 8 - 50% return
- Week 9 - 44% return
- Weeks 10-16 - 0% return
TA funds must be returned to the Government within 45 days of determination of the withdrawal. Date of the withdrawal is the date that the student officially withdrew, according to the withdrawal documentation received by the MCC Admissions Department, or the last day of attendance reported by the instructor when the final grades are posted.
